Being a mum means I don’t get much chance to pamper myself anymore. So it was lovely to be sent a jar of
Weleda Wild Rose Smoothing Facial Oil Capsules to test out and review. An excuse to pamper myself … who would say no to that?! 🙂 Not me!
The Wild Rose Capsules are designed to soften fine lines and preserve the skin’s youthful vitality.
The capsules come in a dark blue glass screw top jar and there are 30 capsules. Each capsule contains 0.3ml of oil which means the jar holds only 9 ml of product. I have to be honest here and say that the retail price of around £17 does seem quite expensive for only 9ml of product. I am however quite sure that the reason for the high price is due to the Rosa Moschata Seed Oil used in the product being very costly.

Whenever I think about the price of essential oils I always think back to the
episode of
The Apprentice when Team Empire mistakenly used Sandalwood in their beauty product instead of Cedarwood. One costs £1200 per kilo and the other only £26 per kilo. They used about £700 of Sandalwood oil and as you can guess they lost that task as they didn’t make a profit! Instead they sold all their soap and still ended up with a loss of £68.

The jar is packaged within a little pink and white cardboard box. The box is made from FSC Mix card which means that the timber or fibre in the product is a mixture of some/all of the following – Timber from an FSC-certified forest, Post-consumer reclaimed material or Controlled Sources, which exclude unacceptable forestry . I think it very responsible of them to use an FSC card.
Getting back to the Weleda capsules….I have been using them for the last month and I really love them. They have made my skin lovely and soft. Very often I can be allergic to skin products but I have had no issues using these Weleda capsules. I have to say I am not 100% in love with the scent though. I find it to be quite musky and I would prefer it to be more floral. You can smell the Wild Rose but I find the musk scent to be more overpowering.

Trying to open the capsules takes a little bit of getting used to. You are supposed to open the capsule by twisting it at the narrow part and then gently pulling. I have found it to be a little difficult though and would recommend cutting the end of with a pair of scissors…much quicker and less stressful! 🙂
Weleda recommend you use 1 capsule per application and they say this should be enough to massage into your face, neck and décolletage. Personally I have found 1 capsule toonly just be enough for my face and perhaps a teeny bit of my neck. Weleda say you should apply the oil to a slightly damp face in the evening, after you have cleansed your face. They do not recommend using a night cream on your face after you have applied the oil. If you are looking for an intensive treatment Weleda recommend you wrap your face in a warm, damp cloth after you have applied the oil as it should increase the effectiveness of the oil. I haven’t tried this though.

The capsules are designed to be used 1-2 times a week but if you want a more intensive treatment they can be used as often as every night for 4 weeks. I have used the capsules every other night and I can’t say I have noticed much of a difference in the appearance of my skin but I have noticed a difference in the texture of my face. It is much smoother and softer. Using the capsules has given me a fresh-faced glow.
The Weleda capsules are Certified Natural, free of synthetic preservatives, fragrances and colourants
and free from mineral oil derivatives.

Although these capsules normally sell for around £17, they are currently on offer at the bargain price of just £5 on their site!! They have been heavily reduced because they have a short use by date of 31st July 2011. The jar that was sent to me has the same use by date and I will have no issues continuing to use the capsules once they are out of date. If you feel the same…why not stock up here.

I have really enjoyed reviewing these capsules and I felt very spoilt using such a luxurious product. Not only do I love the product though…I also love the company and their ethos. I am very impressed with their
Fair Trade Partnership and the fact they use a green energy supplier. But most of all it is wonderful to know that they do not allow anything synthetic in their products…only natural ingredients and I’m delighted to see that no products are tested on animals.
