Review of Laura Ashley Girl’s Clothes from Spring / Summer Collection 2011

I was over the moon when I received this Summer Clothes set to review from Laura Ashley Girls. I had told the lady who was sending them to me that I love Polka Dots so she knew that I’d be delighted to receive a spotty outfit from Laura Ashley.

I had asked for bigger sizes than my daughter’s age as I knew from experience that Laura Ashley clothes can come up small on their sizes. I received an age 5 / 6 years on the clothes and this means that my daughter can wear the top now as a dress and then next summer and maybe the one after that , she could wear the leggings with the top to form an outfit. I have tried the leggings on my daughter but the legs are far too long at the moment.  I have washed the outfit a couple of times but I wasn’t very happy to see that the leggings went slightly bobbly after just one wash. The top washed really well and didn’t bobble at all. It doesn’t surprise me that the leggings went bobbly as most clothes available on the high street seem to do exactly the same thing. I just wouldn’t have been very happy had I paid the full price of £10 for them.

However at the time of writing this (July 2011) the leggings are now on offer in the summer sale for £5 so they are definitely worth that as they are so summery. At that price it doesn’t matter if they get a bit bobbly as you haven’t paid too much for them.
The cotton bow back top was £16.00 which I feel was quite expensive at full price but at the summer sale price of £8.00 you can’t go wrong.  The top is a lovely A-line shape and if you buy a bigger size than usual it is perfect to wear as a dress while it is too big and then as a top as your child grows into it.

The top is a vibrant green colour t-shirt material made from 100% cotton and it has cute patch pockets and a floppy bow at the back made from spotty material to match the co-ordinating leggings that are available. I think it is a shame Laura Ashley don’t have a photo of the back of the top on their site ..but not to worry – I have a photo of the bow for you here:-

This top is also available in a navy blue colourway. I think I prefer the navy one as it would hide stains better. Unfortunately my daughter has already managed to get a stain on her green top which is such a shame as I can’t seem to get it out. Luckily it is not too noticeable and she can still get away with wearing the top out.

The Cotton Bow Back Top has a delightful ‘kissing’ fish embroidery on the side seam and gathering pleats at the mid neck-line. They are lovely finishing touches.

The spot print cotton leggings are made from 95% cotton and 5% elastane with an elasticated waist.  The spot design is very fun and perfect to wear under the Laura Ashley Bow Back Top or with any other plain t-shirt or dress already in your child’s wardrobe.

Laura Ashley is such a well know brand and I absolutely adore all the floral prints. One of the sewing projects that I would love to do one day, when I can find time, is to make a quilt for my daughter from Laura Ashley and Cath Kidston patchwork pieces. I think I’ll make two…one for my daughter and one for me! I’ll only be jealous otherwise! 🙂
