Review of Fudge Fancies- The delicious posh fudge that’s perfect as a gift!

As soon as I found the website Fudge Fancies I just had to be cheeky and ask if they’d consider sending me some of their gourmet fudge for my sister to review. She is an absolute fudge fanatic and I just knew she would be delighted to try some of the handmade fudge made by Michael Goodchild, founder of Fudge Fancies.
Michael kindly sent her a selection box of 4 Fudge Fancies which retails at £4.80 plus P+P within the UK of £2.10. This little box of fudge was so beautifully presented. There had been no expense spared. My sister loved the way that Fudge Fancies had used matching hot pink accents on all the presentation. There was a magenta mailing bag, matching tissue paper and then the small, white, square box of fudge had been tied up with some thin ribbon of an identical colour. My sister was very impressed with all the finishing touches that Michael had made to the presentation of the little fudge delights. Although my sister was over the moon with the all the ‘pinkness’ of the presentation, she did wonder if maybe it would be a good idea for Fudge Fancies to offer the chance to have the packaging in a more manly colour of say black or blue if you were sending the fudge as a gift to a male friend or relative.
Each Fudge Fancy is wrapped in a little piece of cellophane with a small ‘flavour’ label stuck on to identify which delicious fudge you are about to try. There is 2 pieces of card slotted together to act as a separating wall between each flavour of Fudge Fancy and then on top of this, across the top of the Fudge Fancies is a piece of clear cellophane with a Fudge Fancies branded label. Included is also a little ‘ingredients’ card which lists all ingredients used. I think this is a great idea, especially for people who have allergies to some ingredients.  My sister commented that because they look so pretty and sweet in the box you don’t actually want to tear through the label, you just want to gaze at them in all their beauty! 🙂 However like I said, she is a huge fan of fudge and even she couldn’t resist eating it for too long!!
The fudge selection box she received contained one each of the following flavours:-
  • Eton Mess
  • Strawberries And Cream
  • After Dinner Mint
  • Sticky Toffee Pudding

The other flavours that are currently available, which we haven’t tried, are these:-

  • Apple Crumble
  • Bakewell Tart
  • Cappuccino & Cinammon
  • Dark Chocolate & Cranberry
  • Dark Chocolate & Orange Zest
  • Dark Chocolate & Ginger
  • Irish Coffee
  • Mango & Coconut
  • Milk Chocolate, Cashew Nut & Raisin (This sounds like one my dad would love. He’s a big fan of Fruit ‘N’ Nut)
  • White Chocolate, Lemon & Lime

My sister’s favourite was the Eton Mess Fudge Fancy and she absolutely loved it. She would highly recommend it to all of you. She loved it’s appearance, with the pink fudge on the bottom and the yummy white chocolate on the top with pieces of crumbled meringue. She said it smells gorgeous and it is sweet and creamy to eat.  This is how she described it for me…

“Beautiful! As you bite into it you get the smooth, strawberry fudge and a bit of a crunch sensation from the white chocolate breaking off. It has a nice, sweet , meringue taste that melts in your mouth.”

I managed to persuade her to let me try the ‘Sticky Toffee Pudding’ Fudge fancy. I only got away with this as she is not a fan of dates and there are dates in this one! Yipee for me! This had a lovely taste and it was not as sweet as I was expecting which was great news. Both me and my sister were surprised and how filling each fudge fancy really is. We, well me in particular, could sit and eat a bag of fudge in quite a short space of time but not these Fudge Fancies. They are made to last! Some brands of fudge that you buy have a really sickly synthetic taste but you do not experience that at all with these Fudge Fancies. Michael is very proud to say that his fudge creations are made using only the best ingredients and natural flavourings. The organic dairy produce that he uses to make the fudge is sourced from a local dairy so that we can all be assured of it’s quality.

I love the ‘Pick And Mix’ nature of the website. If you take a look at the site you’ll see what I mean. You can pick and mix which fudge you have in your box or you could choose to opt for a box of Fudge Roulette  (Great name!) which is assorted fudge.

My personal suggestion to Fudge Fancies for new fudge flavours to make are …Lemon Drizzle Cake, Strawberry Angel Delight and  Millionaire’s Shortbread. Yum! Do you have any suggestions for the next fudge flavour? I’m sure Michael would love to hear from you if you do. He loves experimenting. He was described as the Heston Blumenthal of Fudge by Judith Lewis in her review.

A couple of years ago Michael decided to leave his job as a plasterer to become a confectioner making and selling this delicious luxury fudge that you have just read about. I think it would be great if we could all support Michael in his new venture. To visit the home of gourmet fudge then click here to be taken to the Fudge Fancies website. Plus you can also find Fudge fancies on Twitter and Facebook and there is even a Fudge Fancies blog.

This is luxury confectionery that would make a fabulous gift for anyone, especially for a fan of fudge, like my sister. They would also make fab luxury wedding favours.
The website is easy-to-use and very visually pleasing. The site theme is very upmarket and it makes you feel like you’ve walked into a posh confectionery shop. The photos of each Fudge Fancy makes your mouth water and the only problem is this…If you are going to be buying a box of these as a gift I would be very surprised if you manage to leave the site without treating yourself to a box as well!!
Now…you may not believe me but Michael also makes FUDGE CAKES!!!! So that’s fudge wedding cakes, fudge christening cakes or fudge birthday cakes all made from 100% fudge. How delicious is that! My sister would love to eat one of those! Question is…Would she share it though?
