My Sister-In-Law Was Sent An Ecoegg Laundry Egg To Try Out. Find Out How She Got On…

ecoegg reviewBoth my Mum and I have an Ecoegg which we use on a daily basis. We were both gifted these for review on my blog last year. Mum got hers in February 2015 (You can read the review here —> http://www.mymummyreviews.com/2015/03/ecoegg-laundry-products/ )  and I got mine in July 2015 (You can read the review here —> http://www.mymummyreviews.com/2015/07/review-of-the-antibacterial-ecoegg-kit/).

Since receiving our Ecoeggs to review last year, neither of us has had to purchase extensive amounts of washing detergent. I think my mum may have bought one cheap Tesco Value bottle to use when she feels a wash requires it because of heavy staining but other than that we have basically not spent any more than a couple of pounds between us on detergent since at least February 2015! I know I haven’t bought any! 🙂

The Ecoegg Laundry Egg is an eco-friendly, hypoallergenic alternative to washing powder and it is very cost effective. It is a reusable egg that you fill with a mixture of mineral and tourmaline pellets that come with the egg when you purchase it. This pellet mix acts as a natural detergent when put in the washing machine with your dirty clothes. The Ecoegg Laundry Egg is available in 3 pack sizes. Each pack contains a laundry egg but the only difference is the number of pellets included. The 54 wash pack is £7.99, the  210 wash pack is £9.99 and the 720 wash pack is £19.99 which absolutely fantastic value for money!

The Ecoegg is hypoallergenic so it is great for sensitive skin and for washing baby clothes. It is supported by both Allergy UK and the National Eczema Society. Celebrity ‘Queen of Clean’, Kim Woodburn from ‘How Clean Is Your House?’ fame, says: “The ecoegg laundry egg is kinder to the environment, kinder to your pocket and kinder to your skin. Never buy washing detergent ever again – Imagine the money you’ll save! And it really works my love!”

ecoegg reviewThis time it is my sister-in-law that has been testing out the Ecoegg.  I was given the opportunity to receive an Ecoegg for her and I thought it would be great to get her to test it out on her and her family’s laundry. I wasn’t sure what she would think to be honest as it is difficult for people to get used to not having to buy and use washing detergent in a wash. However she is a savvy shopper and likes to save money so I knew she would be happy to give the Ecoegg a go to see what it was like.

At first I think she was rather skeptical that a plastic egg with pellets in could get her clothes clean. I was exactly the same when my mum first got hers to review but by the time I received mine in July I had watched my mum use the Ecoegg from Feb to July so was very confident in the knowledge that the Ecoegg works as it should.ecoegg reviewI helped my sister-in-law fill up the laundry egg with the supplied mineral and tourmaline pellets and explained that she can then top up the mineral pellets when necessary (Ecoegg recommend topping up the pellets when they are about half their original size, when cleaning power has declined or after 72 washes).  She didn’t really use fabric conditioner before having the Ecoegg but I did recommend that if she wanted her washed clothes to have a fragrance, like she was used to from using detergent, that she might want to consider adding a small amount of it to her wash so the scent gets into the clothes.

The Ecoegg my sister-in-law received was fragranced with a subtle scent of ‘Spring Blossom’ but I know from experience that the scent doesn’t transfer all that much to the washed clothing. The one thing I enjoy about doing the laundry , and there is not much I enjoy about it! , is the summery scent of freshly washed clothes. That is why I choose to add fabric conditioner to my Ecoegg wash. I LOVE having freshly washed clothes that are visibly clean (Ecoeegg makes sure of this!) and that smell beautiful. This is why I recommended to my sister-in-law that she might want to invest a pound on a bottle of fabric conditioner to add to her wash. Also, we live in a very hard water area and I am sure the fabric conditioner helps keep my clothes soft and in good condition.   If you go ahead and order an Ecoegg laundry egg I would recommend also purchasing the concentrated fabric conditioner that they sell. It is £9,99 for a huge bottle and it can be used up to 240 times! My mum was sent this to review back in Feb 2015 and she still has loads left in the bottle as she chooses to only uses fabric conditioner on the odd occasion, not all the time like me. You can read the Ecoegg concentrated fabric conditioner review here.

So the big question is……How did she get on with the Ecoegg and will she continue to use it?

She has told me that she is impressed with the Ecoegg and that after a period of adjustment she has managed to wean herself off using laundry detergent in every wash. She said she was adding a teeny bit of detergent to the same wash as Ecoegg as she was worried the Ecoegg wouldn’t clean the clothes all on its own  She got to a point where she then dared to try a wash without any detergent at all and was pleased to see that her clothes were just as clean as when she had been adding a bit of detergent. From then on she just used the Ecoegg in the washing drum with a bit of fabric conditioner to add fragrance. She now uses the Ecoegg most of the time with the exception of some washes where she feels it is definitely best to use washing detergent instead as she feels it can provide a more powerful clean on some tough stains.

The most important thing is that she has road-tested the Ecoegg and after being dubious at first she has now seen that the Ecoegg does indeed get clothes clean without having to add laundry detergent to the wash. It will save her money (and cupboard space) in the long run as she won’t need to keep purchasing big boxes of washing powder to use for her laundry. Yes she does now choose to buy fabric conditioner, which is something she wasn’t buying before, but at only £1 a bottle from the poundshop that won’t break the bank as a bottle will last for ages when only a few drops are added for fragrance purposes (I believe you could also add a couple of drops of essential oils to the rinse draw instead, if you’d prefer).

The ultimate discovery has been that although the Ecoegg looks nothing like a scoopful of washing powder…it can still get your clothes nice and clean!  🙂 According to Ecoegg “It’s not magic – it’s science! The Ecoegg laundry egg is packed with unique scientifically formulated, hypoallergenic cleaning pellets. These pellets naturally activate in the water to gently lift away dirt and grime, without using any harsh chemicals. It works – it’s proven to remove dirt and grime The ecoegg is scientifically proven in one of the UK’s leading product test laboratories to remove dirt, grime and stains”  (This is taken from their Amazon page)

My sister-in-law has said she will continue to use the Ecoegg and she’s pleased the company were kind enough to gift it to her so she had the opportunity to try it out and to save money long term. Thanks Ecoegg! 😀
