Today I thought I would write a quick review of Monty’s Red Onion Marmalade. I recently finished the jar that I had bought at the North Norfolk Food and Drink Festival at Holkham Hall last year and after eating it on my cheese and crackers the other day I decided I would let you all know about it as it was rather delicious!

The red onion marmalade is handcrafted in Norfolk and it is made by ‘Monty’s Foods‘ which is a Norfolk brand launched by Sarah Savage of Essence Foods. The product range includes mustards and chutneys and they are all available to buy online at www.essencefoods.co.uk.

The Red Onion Marmalade is quite thick and rich – you don’t need too much of it on your crackers as a little goes a long way. I used a bit more than normal on some of my crackers in the photo as I was using up the last of the chutney in the jar.  It is wonderful to put on crackers and in sandwiches. I have even used it in homemade cheese and onion rolls! Delicious!

The jar of Red Onion Marmalade says on it that ‘This traditional recipe includes balsamic vinegar and a hint of spice for an extra kick, creating a  brilliant depth of flavour. A perfect partner for sausages and cheese.

The nutritional information says that per 15g serving there is 18 kcal energy, 0g fat, 0g saturates, 2.7g sugar and 0.09g salt.

The product is suitable for vegans and it is gluten free.

The ingredients are as follows :-

Red onions, sugar, balsamic vinegar (wine vinegar, grape must, colour (sulphite ammonia, caramel, sulphur dioxide)), rapeseed oil, cornflour, spices, mustard seed, herbs

Once opened you should store it in the fridge and consume within 4 weeks.

The Red Onion Marmalade is £3.50 a jar to buy online and you can order it here >> essencefoods.co.uk/product/red-onion-marmalade/. There is shipping to pay as well but if you live locally you may find that it is stocked in a local shop so the best thing to do would be to contact Sarah on info@essencefoods.co.uk to ask the best place to buy it. If you choose to buy a jar – or two- it will be great that you are a supporting a Norfolk business. I live in this wonderful county and we have so many fantastic artisan food producers. Speaking of which, Essence Foods won The EDP Norfolk Food & Drink Awards ‘Pride of Norfolk‘ category in September 2018 and I am not surprised in the slightest as they sell such fabulous food products! Plus they work tirelessly to promote their brands both online and at local food fairs. Over the years, I have always see them at the Norfolk Show and other foodie fairs in the county. You can always spot me as I am the one trying all the samples! Yum!
